Welcome to Reception!

Our class teacher is Miss Thornton.

In Reception we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, learning through play. We have lots of lovely resources in our classroom and outdoor area so we are always busy playing and learning together. The children enhance their learning skills in the following areas:

  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Communication and language
  • Physical development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematical development
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design

As parents you can support your child’s learning by discussing their current topic (see Tapestry and Curriculum Newsletter (below). We also ask you to support their learning by reading with them every day – this is so important in the early stages of their curriculum.

Home Learning

At Alice Ingham, we value the contribution that our parents and carers make to their child’s learning and will continue to work in collaboration with our families to ensure every child reaches their full potential. We welcome contributions from home and encourage you to share your child’s achievements with us through Tapestry.

At Alice Ingham, we are intent on fostering a love for reading beyond the classroom. As parents and carers, you are your child’s first and most important teacher. We ask that you read to your child or listen to them read for at least 10 minutes every day. This could be a story you choose together, their library book from school, or when your child is ready, their phonics reading book. Please click here for a Reading At Home Guide For Parents.

To support your child’s mathematical development, please log in to their Numbots account at least 3 times per week to practice counting and number recognition. If you would like a reminder of your login details, please let me know and I can forward them to you.

If you would like to discuss anything further, please feel free to speak to me at home time or contact me on the following email address:

Oral Hygiene

In Reception, we are keen to promote good oral hygiene. Please share these videos with your child and talk about the importance of brushing your teeth in the morning and at night. You can also discuss how different foods and drinks can be good or bad for your teeth.

We have now resumed our tooth brushing programme in school. As part of our People Who Help Us topic, we had a visit from our local dental nurse who shared her top tips for keeping our teeth clean. Take a look at the video below for some healthy teeth tips from Dr Ranj and his sidekick Supertooth!
