Miss Purvis is the class teacher in Year 1.

In Year 1 we follow the Key Stage One curriculum.  Please see the curriculum newsletter (below) for information about our learning at the moment.  For more information, please take a look at the curriculum section of the website.

Your child’s learning can be supported by reading every day, learning spellings, learning times tables and completing homework.  With reading, spellings and times tables, little and often is the key.

As they did in Reception, children in Year 1 will continue to bring home reading books which match what they are being taught in phonics teaching sessions.  They will be able to read these books by blending the phonemes they already know.  They will continue to bring home books that are phonetically plausible until they are confident and secure when they will transfer to our main reading scheme which will support them to develop wider language and comprehension skills.

Children in Year 1 will take the Phonics Screening Test in June 2023.  This will be immediately when we return from our holiday in May – so please do not book any holidays for your child which will mean they are not in school at this time.  The test must be taken in this week and we do not have any flexibility in dates.

Home Learning

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me at our class email – 1G@aliceingham.stoccat.org.uk

Children can  log into their Numbots account and practice their number skills daily. Children’s Numbots log ins are in the front of their reading record. If you are having trouble finding this, please request it through our class email. The website for Numbots can be found here.

It is really important that our children continue to read consistently at home. To support reading at home please have a look at our Reading At Home Guide For Parents.

Class Routines

Reading Books

Reading books are changed when they need to be changed and are always linked to their learning in phonics. Children should bring their reading books to school everyday so that we can read with your child. When you have read with your child at home please sign their reading record, so we know they have read.

PE

We have PE on a Friday. Children must come to school in their PE kit. This must be black leggings/shorts/jogging bottoms, PE T-shirt and a school jumper.

Homework

Homework will be sent home on a Friday to be on the following Thursday. In addition to the homework sent home, please read with your child as much as possible and use Numbots at least three times per week. – If you need a reminder of your child’s Numbots log-in, please contact school.
