Miss Purvis is the class teacher in Year 1.
In Year 1 we follow the Key Stage One curriculum. Please see the curriculum newsletter (below) for information about our learning at the moment. For more information, please take a look at the curriculum section of the website.
Your child’s learning can be supported by reading every day, learning spellings, learning times tables and completing homework. With reading, spellings and times tables, little and often is the key.
As they did in Reception, children in Year 1 will continue to bring home reading books which match what they are being taught in phonics teaching sessions. They will be able to read these books by blending the phonemes they already know. They will continue to bring home books that are phonetically plausible until they are confident and secure when they will transfer to our main reading scheme which will support them to develop wider language and comprehension skills.
Children in Year 1 will take the Phonics Screening Test in June 2023. This will be immediately when we return from our holiday in May – so please do not book any holidays for your child which will mean they are not in school at this time. The test must be taken in this week and we do not have any flexibility in dates.
