Our Viking Experience Day was incredible. The children were able to handle a range of artefacts and ask questions about them, so they understood how they were used in the Viking period.

In our local history unit, the children had the opportunity to visit Touchstones Museum, where they looked at how the people of Rochdale were affected by the World Wars.

Rochdale in the Past

What an amazing day! The children experienced a day in the life of Victorian Children here in Rochdale.  The classrooms were turned into a Victorian school class, the boys and the girls had different entrances and some of the children ate gruel!!

History intent statement

At Alice Ingham RC Primary School, our History curriculum aims to offer high quality history lessons in which the pupils will gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world.

By doing this, students will develop a well-rounded knowledge of the past and its events, with intention to improve every students’ cultural capital, understanding of the world around them and their own heritage. The use of engaging activities, trips and visitors will give all students an opportunity to question the past. We aim to equip pupils with a knowledge and understanding of their own identity within a social, political, cultural and economic background. We take a thematic approach with our teaching of history and are able to make cross-curricular links with other subjects. We want the children to understand and be proud of the history of Rochdale and widen their understanding of historical events on the wider world.
