Music intent statement

At Alice Ingham RC Primary School, our Music curriculum aims to allow the children to gain a secure understanding of what music is through listening, singing, playing, evaluating, analysing, and composing across a wide variety of historical periods, styles, traditions and musical genres. Our core focus within music at Alice Ingham is to develop a curiosity for the subject, as well as an understanding and acceptance of the validity and importance of all types of music, and an unbiased respect for the role that music may wish to be expressed in any person’s life. We are committed to ensuring children understand the value and importance of music in the wider community and are able to use their musical skills, knowledge and experiences to involve themselves in music, in a variety of different contexts.

All children will have the opportunity to learn how to play a musical instrument through our curriculum and are taught to do so by a specialist teacher.  In addition to this, our Key Stage 2 children have an opportunity to learn how to play drums.  The children have the opportunities to enter into competitions and perform in front of an audience. Each year the school enters Rochdale Music Festival and are very proud of the success we have had there.

The Halle Orchestra – at The Bridgewater Hall

What an amazing day!  Some of the children had an unbelievable opportunity to go to The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester to listen to the Halle Orchestra perform.  We are not sure who was more excited the children or the staff. A huge thank you to the Halle for making this happen.
